Rita Abel

Rita Abel is the Founder, CEO and President of Abel Financial Management Co. She is responsible for the vision and oversight of the company’s comprehensive financial planning, investment management and tax-related services.

Professional Experience

Rita brings to her position a wealth of experience in the varied fields of accounting and taxation, investment management and comprehensive financial planning. She has been a practicing CPA since 1982, first working in various public accounting firms and becoming a sole practitioner in 1991. In 1994, in order to become a more valuable resource to her CPA clients, Rita obtained the professional designation of a CFP (Certified Financial Planner) and formed a separate entity – Abel Financial management Co., an independent RIA (Registered Investment Advisory) firm. Since that time, she has incorporated both disciplines to maximize the benefit to her clients’ financial well being.

Rita holds a B.S. degree from Towson University, an M.S. degree from the Johns Hopkins University, and did graduate work at Loyola University of Maryland’s Masters in Professional Accountancy program. In addition to her professional certifications as a CPA and a CFP, she has earned the PFP (Personal Financial Planner) credentials bestowed by AICPA, is a MD state licensed insurance agent for Life, Health, Disability, and Variable Annuities, and holds FINRA series 6,7,24, and 63 licenses.

Rita’s many professional certifications are not the focus, but rather the byproduct of her passion for learning and for helping others lead a more effective financial life. In addition to the continuing professional education she takes to meet licensure requirements, each year she attends two or three professional national conferences in the areas of wealth management, taxation and estate planning. She is always seeking information on what is new in the areas that affect her clients’ financial interests, and keeps up with current economic conditions and the financial industry as a whole.

Actively involved in her profession, Rita is a member of the AICPA and its Tax Section and Financial Planning Section as well as the Maryland Association of CPAs, Maryland Society of Accountants, Baltimore Estate Planning Council, and the Financial Planning Association of MD.

Rita is married, has three adult sons who are also married and who have blessed her and her husband with seven wonderful grandchildren – five boys and two girls.

Outside her professional life, she devotes her personal time first and foremost to her family, then to her friends, and then to the practice of yoga and various other forms of physical fitness.
